Elementary Grades 1-5
Language Arts

Students in Elementary grades will learn the basics of the English language. Starting from spelling, grammar, vocabulary words, they will move onto advanced reading and writing skills by being exposed to various poems, stories in class and various genres of books assigned in-school and at home. The objective is to make students sharpen and master their literary and writing skills along with the help of teachers and various on-campus and off-campus resources. Students will be challenged by assignments, projects and other activities. Additionally, students will give regular spelling tests which will strengthen their vocabulary and prepare them for regional spelling bees.

Mathematics

Our goal is to allow students to develop a deeper understanding of mathematical concepts from their own experience, and incorporate practical routines to enhance arithmetic skills for future mathematical study. The aim is to provide students with best possible problem solving strategies in everyday mathematics. This is done by establishing a framework of dialogue between the teacher and students.

Science

Students are trained to plan and conduct investigations, provide evidence and make observations. They are exposed to relevant, hands-on opportunities and experiences to better understand complex topics and to promote scientific literacy. Topics include exploring living things, ecosystems, classifying matter, weather, solar system, habitat, space & energy.

Social Studies

Throughout the years, students will learn to build up their knowledge on rules, laws, authority figures, history figures, know how of maps, knowledge about communities, governments, cultures and environment, knowledge about landform and changes.

Arabic

By learning the Arabic Language, students will connect to the Quran in a better way.

At different levels, students learn to use the Arabic language to communicate within and beyond their classroom setting. They start with learning how to recognize letters, associate sounds, create words, and sentences by listening, reading, and speaking in Arabic. After mastering the basics, students advance to reading and writing short paragraphs and essays.

Islamic Studies

The purpose of Islamic studies class is for students to be able to understand the five pillars of Islam and implement them in their daily life.

Islamic studies at Furqaan Academy tries to connect their heart to the Quran and Sunnah through the basics of Islam.

Students in their early years learn about stories of Prophets and their Lives. They are introduced to Sahabas, and other prominent figures in Islam. They are motivated to build a strong character by learning about all facets of this monotheistic religion. Inshallah, the goal of this course is to make our way of life according to the Quran and Sunnah.

Quran

Al-Qaidah An-Noraniah is introduced to strengthen Quran reading. Our goal
is to make students fluent in recitation with proper Tajweed and Makharij. Students will then advance to memorizing the Quran starting from Juz Amma. Depending on their ability, students often finish half to one juz every school year.

Art

Art is a valuable class where students learn to become creative & artistic.

Students will work towards learning different skills and develop their creative ability. Islamic Art will be specifically stressed in this class.

Centers

Centers are designated spaces where students work semi-independently or in groups to review the information and important skills they learned in classrooms. Centers can be very engaging and teachers use them to differentiate instructions for students.

Manipulatives

Students at this age enjoy learning through play. Manipulative materials allow a more hands-on approach to learning. It enables them to explore ideas and visualize concepts. Math manipulatives include but may not be limited to ten frame sets, cash registers, play money, clock dials, etc, to help students grasp the concepts of mathematical operations, counting, time, measurement, and more.

Puzzles

Puzzles require abstract thinking. It requires the ability to see a space and envision what belongs there. Puzzles also require fine motor control in order to place the pieces into the right place. Puzzles also teach the mind to problem solve and think logically.
